    Hi Kwenzi,

A CD4 of 851 is excellent and is well within normal ranges. For it to stay like this, you will need to be on medication.

    Hi Neo,

If the person who is positive is on medication and has an undetectable viral load, the risk of transmission is close to zero. Please see the results of the PARTNER study for more info:

If they are not on ART, then you risk becoming infected.

    Hi Sinazo,

There’s no reason why you can’t have children, lots of women who are HIV positive have children. However, because you’ve just started meds, and because you’re young maybe you should give yourself some time. Give yourself some time to get used to taking meds, then start thinking about a family.

If you wait a while, your viral load is also highly likely to become undetectable. Once this happens then the risk to your partner will be close to zero. Please see the results of the PARTNER study for more info:

This will mean that you’d be able to conceive naturally. Until your viral load is undetectable, you should use condoms. If you don’t, your partner will be at risk.
