I tested HIV positive since April 2016 and since then am on ARV treatment, My cd4 count by then was 355, after 6 months it was 573 and In October 2017 it was 670. Does that mean I can’t infect anybody during sexual?

    Hi Philip,

If you’ve been on ART for 3 years and your CD4 is 9, this would imply that the meds that you’re taking aren’t working. Therefore, given that your CD4 is 9 its very important that you talk to your doctor about this as you’ll need to change. Usually this is easily done. For more info about changing meds, please see here:

    Hi Hope,

When someone starts meds their viral load should ideally become undetectable within 3 months, therefore this is normal. What may be a concern is your CD4 count. What was it when you were diagnosed? Also what meds are you on?

Im HIV positive and when I went for cd4 and viral load check up they told me that my cd4 is 17 and what shock me most is my viral load is undetectable and is being a year on treatment is that possible?

    Hi Tsp,

Its not possible to be positive and have a negative HIV result. This is regardless of the CD4 count, and or viral load. This is because once someone is positive, they will always be positive.

    Hi Pankaj,

The only way to improve a CD4 count, or control a CD4 is to be on ART. If you’re on ART then you’re already doing what it is that you need to do.

How can improve my CD4 count?

    Hi Pankaj,

The only thing that can help/improve a persons CD4 is ART. Are you on meds? If you are, how long have you been on them for? And what was your CD4 when you started meds?
