Hi Zah, I’m sorry to hear you’re not well. But starting to take medication can help to stop your cough.

It’s important to talk to your doctor about your worries. Your CD4 count is good. Taking HIV medication can help to reduce your viral load to undetectable. And this can help your immune system to fight the cough.

Please talk to the doctor about your HIV medication to make sure you’re taking it in the right way.

Hi all my CD4 count cell is 507 and viral load of 80036 copies/ml. I have a problem of ongoing cough so I’m not sure if I can start taking medication or not.

HIV treatment is now more effective and simpler to take than ever before. It involves far fewer side effects and usually fewer pills.

And although you may have trouble with one treatment, there is nearly always something you can do about it.

This includes taking another drug to treat the side effect. Or changing one HIV drug for another HIV drug. And sometimes you can alter the dose of your HIV drugs.

It’s important to tell your doctor about any side effects you have. You don’t just have to put up with them because newer drugs may have become available while you’re on treatment.

Talking to your doctor about side effects can help improve your quality of life.

My CD4 is 367. I just want to know if the treatment will not affect me in anyway? Like skin changes. Body shape changes etc, I am so worried.

    Hi Synthia,

Yes, if you are healthy. Women around the world have taken HIV drugs safely in pregnancy for over 20 years. This usually involves taking at least three drugs and is called ART.

You can discuss planning your baby with your doctor to make sure that your HIV is undetectable when you’re pregnant. Your doctor will look after your health during this time, and this can help your baby to be born HIV negative.

Yes, the normal CD4 range for HIV negative people is between 400 and 1600.

Many HIV positive mothers have HIV negative babies by being on HIV treatment (ART).

Hi Alabi, are you asking about fasting for religious reasons? If yes, then fasting is not needed if there are medical reasons not to do this. With a CD4 count of 150 it might be metter to not fast. Are you currently on treatment? Using treatment is important with a CD4 count this low. Waiting until the count gets higher before fasting might also be a good idea.
