Q and A

Question

I have pain and symptoms after switching to Tribuss

I have been using lamivudine, stavudine and nevirapine for 3 years.

My doctor just changed me to Tribuss last month, and its been 3 weeks taking it.

I have this pain in my arms, back of my legs, feel very tired, feel hot inside…Is this normal?

Answer

Hi

These symptoms are not common side effects from the three drugs in Tribuss (efavirenz, FTC and tenofovir).

As with any symptom that you are worried about, please contact your doctor so that s/he can go through your concerns in detail.

This means that your doctor can test for less common side effects or other things that might be causing this.

    Hi Nazo,

Side effects like feeling dizzy are common. However, these should only last a few weeks. If you’re feeling like this, then you may need to change. Please see Q3 here: http://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

    Hi Masilo,

The itching and the lump could be due to a number of reasons. This is something that you’ll need to discuss with a doctor.

Hi Sinah, Many people have mild side effects for the first week or so after starting treatment. Usually this goes away quickly. But your symptoms don’t sound as though they’re mild. But you can talk to the clinic about them and check what’s causing them.

    Dear Constance,

As Simon says on this question, symptoms like these are not usually linked to Tribuss. And they should be checked by your doctor. It does sound very painful. So it’s a good idea to go to see the doctor and find out what’s causing them.

thanks for your reply.. I just have to put this here..the doctors in my community are very unenlightened when it comes to matters of HIV and health.. I told my doctor that the arv makes me urinate frequently, he said its normal and that I should drink more water often.. I told him and another doctor about the pimples, they said I was maturing.. like seriously?.. I am almost 28..
