Q and A

Question

How long does dizziness with Tribuss last?

Hi I started Tribuss three days ago.

I just want to long know how long does dizzness takes because I’m I work night shift sometimes.

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Tribuss is a generic version of Atripla.

Tribuss contains three ARVs- efavirenz, tenofovir and FTC. The dizziness you are experiencing is a common side effect of efavirenz.

Usually this will improve after the first few weeks of treatment. Efavirenz may be a difficult drug if you work shifts that require sometimes working days and sometimes working nights. This is becasue most people routinely take efavirenz before they sleep.

If this dizziness is affecting your ability to work, or making it dangerous to do so, it’s important to talk to your clinic about this. There are alternative drugs that may be more appropriate with your shift patterns.

There is more information about efavirenz side effects here.

    Hi Lizzy,

Tribuss is a generic version of Atripla. Please see here for more info:

You don’t need to stop eating meat, or even fatty foods. What you need to do is avoid eating fatty foods close to the time when you’re due to take your meds. Or when you’re taking your meds. This is because a high fat meal increases drug levels of efavirenz by 60%. This increases the likelihood of side effects.

Therefore, if you want to eat fatty foods, you can, just eat them for lunch instead of dinner. That is if you take your meds at night.

I’m taking tribuss, and the DS-24 supplements. On the container they wrote that I must avoid fatty or oily food. So, I want to know what must I eat and how. Or must I stop eating meat.

Hi Nick, if you have stopped the meds then this isn;t the cause.

    Hi

I was on Tribus for 28 days as a PEP medication. I have stopped 2 weeks ago and still feel a dizzy, loopy, heavy and very drowzy feeling in my head. Can anyone please try and advise if it will go away, what’s causing it and what I can do to treat it?

The dizziness you’re experiencing is a common side effect of efavirenz, which is a drug contained in Tribuss. These side effects will usually improve after the first few weeks of treatment.

    Hi Charlotte,

It’s common to feel like this when someone first starts Odimune (a generic version of Atripla http://i-base.info/guides/1561) the dizziness should go within a few weeks. However, if it doesn’t, as is your case, then changing to a combination that doesn’t contain efavirenz should help. Please see Q3 here: http://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

Just to ask, what time are you taking your medication? Are you taking it as prescribed?
