Q and A

Question

How long does dizziness with Tribuss last?

Hi I started Tribuss three days ago.

I just want to long know how long does dizzness takes because I’m I work night shift sometimes.

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Tribuss is a generic version of Atripla.

Tribuss contains three ARVs- efavirenz, tenofovir and FTC. The dizziness you are experiencing is a common side effect of efavirenz.

Usually this will improve after the first few weeks of treatment. Efavirenz may be a difficult drug if you work shifts that require sometimes working days and sometimes working nights. This is becasue most people routinely take efavirenz before they sleep.

If this dizziness is affecting your ability to work, or making it dangerous to do so, it’s important to talk to your clinic about this. There are alternative drugs that may be more appropriate with your shift patterns.

There is more information about efavirenz side effects here.

    Hi Mercy,

Do you know why you were changed to efavirenz? How long have you been taking them for? If it’s longer than a few weeks you’ll need to talk to your doctor and asked to be changed. Please see Q3 here: http://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

    Hi Ben,

It’s common to have side effects when first starting medication, and as you saw after a month these went. If you’re now feeling dizzy again, yes this could be due to the meds, however it could be due to a lot of other things. You’re going to need to talk to your doctor.

Hai. I have take efavirenz and tenofovir for almost 7 months. For the first month, i feel dizzy after a couple hours of taking my medicine. After that, i no longer feel the dizziness.

However, recently, i feel back the effect of the dizziness. Can i know why it is possible to happend?

    Hi Vine.

Its really not possible to say how long it will take, as everyone is different. However, dizziness should only last a few weeks. If its an issue, you’ll need to discuss this with your doctor.

    Hi Lebo,

It’s great tat you’ve started HIV treatment. Many people get mild side effects when they first start. But these usually go away in a week or two.

But please talk to your doctor if the side effects continue, and if they are making your life difficult.
