Q and A

Question

I tested positive after testing negative, how is this possible?

I tested in January and i was negative. In April it was negative and in September it was positive. At the same time i did a CD4 test. After two weeks the results came back and it was 354. How is this possible?

Answer

Hi,

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

You will have become positive shortly before or after you test in April.

Your CD4 is not bad but in most countries your clinic would start talking to you about starting treatment. HIV treatment works very well today and many people who start with CD4 counts similar too yours can now expect to live as long a people who do not have HIV.

You can find information about being newly diagnosed on our website.

And information about starting treatment.
