Q and A

Question

My baby has blisters, does he have HIV?

My 3-year-old boy is constantly getting blisters on his legs. He was born negative and after he turned 1 he tested negative again. Can his status change? I’m worried because of these blisters, please help.

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Your baby already testing negative twice is very encouraging. Transmitting HIV is not easy and it is very unlikely he would now be testing positive. Is there a reason you think the blisters are caused by HIV?

Blisters can be caused by a number of things. Has anything changed recently? Babies can be very sensitive and prone to infection. These blisters may be as simple as being caused by a different soap. Have you spoken a doctor about this? A doctor may be able to offer a solution to this and put your mind at ease.

If you have another question, please get in touch.

Josh.
