Question

My partner is taking ARVs and I didn’t know.

My partner is taking Telatri and she’s been hiding this 4 years should I be worried?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Your partner is taking medication. This would suggest she is managing HIV and doing well. Have you heard of U=U? It means that when HIV is well managed with medication, people are unable to pass on HIV. In this case there would be no risk to you.

Does your partner know how you feel about HIV? Telling people can be a scary experience, even when completely comfortable with people. Have you read our disclosure Q&A? Often this is a common finding and people are unsure about how to approach this with their partner if at all.

How did you find out that your partner was taking Telatri, and for so long?

Josh.

Hi Mapula. Thanks – and I am sorry that this situation is difficult. If you are on effect HIV meds, then these will also be protecting your boyfriend. He should rally learn about HIV so that you can talk together – and so he takes responsibility for his own health. This link includes various approaches to talking that might help:
