Q and A

Question

I missed taking my medication for 4 days – can I develop resistance?

I’ve already been without Atriple two nights. I cannot get anymore meds until monday, total of 4 nights. How bad off am I going to be?

Answer

Missing meds is never recommended and although some combination might cover you for a day or two, a break longer than this has the potential to develop resistance.  But sometimes accidents happen and often people are lucky and there are no long-term problems. The less often this happens the better but you can’t do anything about it now other than plan to avoid this in the future.

As soon as your medication arrive, please take them immediately and then adjust back to your normal dosage routine.  Please do not take double dosage and do speak to your doctor to inform him about the late dosage.

Perhaps in the future, you could ask someone that you know who take the same medication and borrow a few tablets from them, when you run out of medication.  This can help you to ease the stress and prevent you from developing resistance.

I include a link for you based on resistance, there you will find all the necessary information and hope that reading this will help you to understand and be informed about HIV.
