Q and A

Question

Are the medications in Erithrea the same as the medications in the UK?

Hey.

I am living in Erithrea and I am HIV-positive, but I did not start to take the medication.

So is the medication in Erithrea is the same as the medication in the UK?

Answer

I am afraid I cannot answer directly to this question, as I am not aware of what you have been prescribed. Do you know the names of the medications?

Generally, the same types of medicines are used in every country, but sometimes the newest drugs are more difficult to get or are not yet available.

If you have been prescribed HIV drugs (also called antiretrovirals or ARVs), it is important to take them, as your doctor has assessed that you already need them. Not taking the medications may put your health at risk.

Information about treatment is in this online guide and an illustrated list of drugs available in the UK is at this link.
