Q and A

Question

What is the chance of him being infected?

I was wondering if an HIV-positive female (viral load 6000) had anal and vaginal sex with a male who was negative, what is the possibility of him being infected? He also gave her oral sex.

Answer

Even though HIV is a difficult virus to catch, sometimes even one exposure can lead to an infection.

In case the contact that you describe was unprotected, then it makes sense the person to get tested. There is more on testing and means of infection here.

I’m sorry but i-Base no longer answers individual questions about risks of HIV transmission or HIV testing.

This service is based on information relating to treatment of people who are HIV positive.

Most testing questions are already answered on the FAQ page:

Our guide to HIV Testing and risks of sexual transmission guide has more detailed and easy to read information about these topics. It can be read online at this link:

I had an unprotected exposure with a friend around 50 days back , I got myself tested after 11 days of exposure and the result came back negative .
I was so worried after hearing about the window period , i discussed it with my friend who offered to get herself tested for me .
She got tested after 40 days of exposure ( Tridot test ) and the test came back as non reactive .
I dont have any symptoms apart from burning sensation while urinating and the girl seems to be just fine .
This was my 1st unprotected exposure .
    should i worry?
