Q and A

Question

How can I decrease my viral load?

hi my question is that I found out I am hiv positive and my c4 was 64 and am now on treatment. The last time Ii do my varal load was more than 3000, they asked me to do it again this month. I’m stressed to much and that makes me scared. What can I used to boost my viral load? I don’t have a problem with my treatment my problem is the stress I have.

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

What was your viral load when you were diagnosed? How long have you been on treatment? Has your CD4 increased since you started meds?

I appreciate that you are concerned that your viral load is not undetectable. It is though still low, and will continue to go down if you take your meds. It can take up to six months to become undetectable. It is taking your meds that will decrease your viral load, and nothing else.

    Hi Musa,

If your viral load is detectable, this means that you’re going to need to change to another regime. Please talk to your doctor about this. The following may also be of help: http://i-base.info/guides/changing

    Hi Buleh,

If your viral load isn’t going down as you say then this would imply that the meds aren’t working. This is something that you’ll need to talk to your doctor about as it sounds like you’ll need to change. Please see here: http://i-base.info/guides/changing

    Hi Queen,

Aluvia is a a type of ARV as too is tenemine, this means that you’re already on ART. What is it that you want to go back to? Why was your combination changed?

    Hi Furo

Do you know the name of the new drugs you have just started. There is a good chance that these will work for you, but without the drug names it is difficult to comment.

Your CD4 count and viral load meant that changing to the new treatment was really important. Your doctor should have done this before your CD4 count dropped this low, but perhaps the latest drugs have just become available.

Which country you are living in?

    Hi Zuzile,

What HIV treatment (ART) are you taking? FDC usually means fixed dose combination. So that could be a pill such Tribuss or Odimune. Please let us know the names of the meds. What’s your last viral load result?

Hi I’m taking fdc and it’s been 2 years now and my viral load is decreasing slowly I don’t know what I’m doing wrong because I’m taking my treatment as directed, I don’t use alcohol or smoke, I eat healthy and use condoms. Seriously I’m confused now.
