Q and A

Question

Will honey increase my CD4?

I’m positive. My CD4 count is 300 ish. Can I use blackseed oil and honey to increase my CD4 count? I’m taking ARVs.

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

By being on ARVs you’re already doing the best thing possible for your HIV. The ARVs will increase your CD4 count, or at least keep it at a steady level.

Neither the honey, nor the blackseed oil  will have any positive effect on your CD4, so unless you want to take/eat them then there’s no need.

Hi Anonymous, are you on treatment? If you are and your viral load is below 200 there is no risk to your boyfriend. This is explained by U=U: https://i-base.info/guides/testing/uu-undetectable-untransmittable

There are also a number of different factors that change the risk of transmission. There are a number of factors that can be modified to reduce risk of transmission: https://i-base.info/guides/testing/risks-for-transmission

Do you know how your boyfriend feels about HIV? if this is a conversation that you would feel comfortable and safe to have you could suggest PrEP. PrEP is a pill taken daily or on-demand that can prevent HIV transmission without the need for a condom. PrEP: https://i-base.info/guides/prep

Hi Kendall, have you not restarted your medication? and what is your current CD4 count and viral load?

Hi Owak, there is no cure for HIV. There is only medication to manage HIV. The only medication being ARVs, these are proven to help improve your CD4 count and reduce viral load. There is no evidence to suggest black seed oil and honey will have any benefit to your health, regardless of HIV status.

Hi Xabiso, there are no negative interactions. As mentioned there are no known positive outcomes. There is not a need to supplement your ARVs with honey.

But will it have a negetive effect, does it contradict with ARV’s??
