Question

Can I take multivitamins while taking PrEP?

Is it OK to take multivitamins (such as Perfectil) when using PrEP?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

PrEP for most people involves an oral pill with two drugs: tenfovir disoproxil (TD) plus emtricitabine (3TC).

Some people use tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) plus emtricitabine (FTC).

Both versions are very safe to also use with multivitamins.

However, multivitamins haven’t been proven to help your health unless you have a vitamin deficiency.

Hi Phil, thanks, please see the section on drug/food interactions linked here:

The only caution with creatine is to make sure your doctor who is monitoring PrEP knows about this.

Hello. I take daily PrEP (Truvada) and have some concerns about possible interactions with the supplements I use daily. I typically take Omega 3, Vitamin D, Creatine, Vegan Protein, Ginkgo and Rhodiola extract, Boron citrate, Vitamin C, and Magnesium Citrate (which I usually take at night along with Creatine). Are there any known interactions between these supplements and PrEP that could reduce its efficacy? Additionally, are there any other foods or supplements that might affect PrEP’s effectiveness? Thanks in advance.
