Q and A

Question

Are Atrozia and Heftenam the same thing?

I’ve been given heftenam from clinic whereas they usually give me atroiza. Will these still work? Are they still good for me?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Heftenam and Atrozia are both generic versions of Atripla, please see here:
https://i-base.info/guides/1561

This means that they are the same medicines and contain the same drugs.

It’s very common to switch between the different generic versions of Atripla, especially in South Africa. This is OK. and very safe.  You shouldn’t have any new side effects or feel any difference.

If you do have problems, please ask your doctor about a newer combination called TLD. Many people find TLD easier to take.

Hi Mbuso, Atroiza and Heftenam are the same medication. The difference being they are made by different manufactures. They might look different but they contain the same medication and will work the same way.
