Q and A

Question

What are the side effects of Reydin?

Hi, my doctor gave me Reydin and I was drinking it at night at fist. My gums started bleeding and after that I had trouble concentrating. I also forget very easily. It is like I’m loosing my mind, what could be the problem?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Reydin is a generic version of TLD. This link is to a previous question about all TLD side effects. Reydin does not cause bleeding gums. Have you mentioned this symptom to a doctor?

How are you sleeping at night? Reydin is often best tolerated when taken during the morning. It can cause problems sleeping. If this is the case it would explain why you are having trouble concentrating.

If you have any further questions do get in touch,

Josh.

Hi Pherane, what is the name of the ART you have been taking? and how are you adjusting to being HIV positive?

Have you noticed any other symptoms alongside this swollen lymph node e.g., fever, cold-like symptoms, problems breathing? A swollen lymph node is very common and often suggestive of a viral infection. This swelling would not be caused by ART.

As you have a lower CD4 count it does mean that you are more at risk of other infections. Are you also taking a medication called co-trimoxazole? This is an antibiotic used to prevent other infections that you may be at risk of as your immune system recovers.

What time of the day are you taking your medication? and how long have you noticed that you have been feeling tired for? are you sleeping well?

Do you have people around you to help support you as you adjust to being HIV positive e.g., friends, family, doctor etc…? Or do you know if there are peer support groups in your area/online that you would feel comfortable to attend?

Good day I have been on ART for about two weeks now

I noticed a swollen lymph node on my left lower jaw area/neck

What can be the cause of this? Is the medication (ART) not working?

Another thing I have noticed I’m always extremely tired. When I was diagnosed I had a CD4 count of 205 and a viral load of 109 000

I’m so confused, I have been taking my medication on time everyday since the diagnosis

HIV is hell on earth, the stigma it comes with , the mental game it plays with you

Wish I could go back in time, I made one mistake now I’m screwed for the rest of my life

Hi Tozama, do you currently have any other symptoms e.g., fevers, joint pain, nausea and vomiting?

As this has now been going on for 2 weeks have you spoken to a doctor about what you can do? and are you currently able to eat and drink well?

The diarrhoea is not a side effect of Reydin as the diarrhoea had started prior to this. Do you know what your current CD4 count and viral load is?

Hi Pherane, thanks, please – it will get easier. Everyone goes through difficult feelings but slowly you will just realise you had sex which is a normal part of life and this was just unlucky. Reydin is one of the generic makgkes of TLD:

This really good modern combination get viral load to undetectable in about a month in 70-80% of people and in 2-3 months in everyone else.

    You will be ok :)

Hi Thuli, any rash that is casuing problems needs to be seen by a doctor. This is important in case your meds needs to be changed. This can’t be decided online – it is important thant somebody needs to see this asap especially as it has covered your body.

Hi Nomalanga, thanks – I am sure I already answer this recently. Changing these mights might help with putting on weight. Please talk to your doctor though about why you might be losing weight, if this is not planned.
