Q and A

Question

I have completed my course of PEP. Will it work?

I have been exposed to HIV and started PEP within 48 hours and continued for 28 days. How likely this is going to work?

Answer

HI, how are you doing?

You started PEP within the required timeframe and completed the full course. This gives you the best chance of PEP working. PEP is 80-90% effective when taken correctly, which you have.

How effective PEP is also needs to take into account the risk of the first exposure. If it was low risk, taking PEP will further reduce the likelihood of being HIV positive.

Josh.

Am hiv negative on 3rd gen antibody only test 12 weeks after pep ,,,but I have symptoms of seroconversion,,like fever sore throat, one mouth sore inside a cheek, headache ( behind the eyes) joint ache and muscle pain and few rashes on my arms. Can this be hiv while I test negative antibody test 12 weeks after pep?

Hi i was exposed to hiv on the 4th of September 2022. I slept with this lady the whole night having sex several times. I was too drunk . Then in the morning my conscious never gave me peace . We both went to the clinic and did tests . She was positive and I tested negative. And I was given tld for 28 days. And her viral load was too high , I took tld after 15 hours. I feel so useless and don’t know what to do. What r my survival chances plz crying
