Q and A

Question

Can I take Acriptega at night?

Hi, I am taking Acriptega pills in the morning. Can I change this and take them at night?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Yes you can take Acriptega at night. Sometimes people experience insomnia when taking Acriptega at night which is why it is started in the morning. But if taking your medication in the morning is not suitable, it is safe to do so at night.

To switch you will need to take your morning dose, followed by an evening dose. Continue then taking your medication in the evening. On this first day you may experience more pronounced side effects for the time there is a high level of drug in your body. This should settle soon after.

Hi S, it i very common for people living with HIV to also use TB meds to prevent TB becoming a problem in the future. This benefit is very good and the risk of resistance is very low. The best person to explain this is your doctor or another health worker at the clinic.

Maybe your new doctor is better for realising this might help, but they really need to explain to you why.

Great that your HIV treatment is going so well – this is really good news.

I answered you here but took out your name so this is anonymous.

Hi Josh sidwell here I restarted my arv treatment last year November the 30th and was switched from the night tablet to the white day tablet which I take now every morning since am just working night shift so it was a bit of a challenge for me to take it at night since I don’t work at a stagnant or stationery place with all the dynamics of the work it became really hard and let to non adherence but since I have switched things are of good sailing my problem or concerns started when I went now to take my meds again and was seen by a different health professional which is new at the facility but according to what I could make up she is or she knows what she is doing and talking about the confusion came in when she said to I have to start on anti TB treatment for a year mind you it’s my second now third time with her I collect my meds I was puzzled yet confused why the other two previous nurses never raised the issue of anti TB treatment for a year to me although I told her before I restarted I was tested for TB and was negative I don’t know should I bring it up with the other two and clear the air or what don’t want to seem as if don’t trust this one but my concerns is with the TB treatment won’t I develop resistance for it and what if I became sick with TB in the future and am resistance because I had the treatment for a year whilst I was negative will really like your opinion on this and you can email me on my private email address please help

Hi Ttt, as your partner is on treatment the risk to you is very low. If they have a viral load below 200 there is no risk to you. It would be impossible to pass on HIV even without using a condom. This is called U=U. Please follow this link for more information: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/

Hi Tebego, I am sorry to hear about what you have expereinced. Have you been able to get any help? e.g., from the police or doctors? You can use Acriptega as PEP. Have you spoken to a doctor about starting PEP?
