Q and A

Question

Condom broke having sex with my parents?

I am doing sex with my parents…. But the condom is broken inside….I am concerned that I will get HIV.

Answer

Hi, are you doing alright?

I’m going to ask some questions to help my understanding of this.

  • Are you having sex with your parents?
  • Do you know the HIV status of the people you are having sex with?
  • Are you consenting to this sex?
  • Are you in a safe environment?

To answer your question about transmission there are a lot of factors that change the risk.

  • How many times has this happened?
  • How long were you having sex?
  • How rough was the sex?

Becoming HIV positive after one exposure is rare and is not a likely event.

If you would like to answer any of these questions or would like to ask anything else, feel free to leave a comment or send another email. All information will be confidential.

Josh.

Hi Moses, as the person you have had sex with has been on HIV medication for the past 14 months my previous reply still stands. In this situation there is very little to no risk of transmission.

Hi Moses, if she has been on medication for over a year it is likely that her viral load is suppressed. This does not mean that she is negative, rather this means she is unable to pass on HIV via sex. Have you heard of U=U? It means that if your viral load is undetectable, you are untransmissiable.
