Q and A

Question

How can I prevent HIV transmission without using a condom?

My partner is HIV positive but I’m negative. I don’t want to use condom, what can I do because I love him?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Is your partner on medication for HIV? If they are and they are undetectable (viral load below 200), there is no risk to you and they cannot pass on HIV. This is explained by U=U.

Is there a reason you are not wanting to use a condom? When used correctly a condom can prevent transmission in 95% of cases.

Another option is the use of PrEP. PrEP is a medication that can either be taken on demand or daily and is used to prevent transmission of HIV.

Josh.
