Can I get HIV from someone who has been taking treatment for four months?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
After 4 months on treatment it is likely that your partner has an undetectable viral load – or a viral load below 200.
When this is the case HIV cannot be passed on via sex. This is explained by U=U.
Do you know what their viral load is? It is usually expected to be undetectable within 3 months (for most it is within the 1st month).
If you are using any other form of protection, that will also prevent HIV transmission e.g., using a condom, or yourself being on PrEP.
