Q and A

Question

I had protected sex do I have HIV?

Hi,

I had vaginal protected sex with a woman. After I finished I noticed two dry blood stains in my groin area. She was starting to have her period. Also one week earlier I gave her oral sex for about 30-40 seconds.

One week after the second sexual encounter I started having fever, chills, cold-sores, muscle aches and sneezing which have been going on and off for about 5 weeks now.

Those symptoms did not come all at the same time. 23 days after possible exposure I had an INSTI blood rapid test done which came back negative. I will have another test at 8 week mark. What are the chances that my test will turn positive? Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The chance of your second test coming back positive are close to zero as you have not exposed yourself to HIV. If you had sex with a condom as you state above then you cannot get HIV. Giving a woman oral sex also caries no risk of transmission.

Hi 2 months back i had protected sex with a female , i dont know her HIV status . After 2 months i am having a upset stomach and some marks which are similar to eczema on my right arm, can this be a symptom of HIV ? although i did not have any other symptom of HIV .

If the sex was protected then you are not at risk for HIV. You have no right to force anyone else to take an HIV test. You need advice for how to take responsibility for you own health and your partner needs advice to stay away from you.

If you had protected sex and you have had a negative HIV test then you do not have HIV. HIV seroconversion symptoms are very general and could be an indication of many things. It is more likely that you have a different infection altogether. You do not need to worry. There is no chance you could have got HIV this way.

I always had protected sex with females. Last time (4 weeks ago) I had sex with a women, everything was protected, not even the condom split or broke. I did not even ejaculated in her, I’m having all the syptoms of HIV. I took a test and it came back negative I am still waiting for a confirmatory test.

What are chances, I have HIV? I’ll be very unlucky if I get it?

    Sam.

Finger-prick tests are accurate 6-12 weeks after exposure but UK guidelines (BASHH) state that a negative result is needed at 90 days to be conclusive.

I had another negative finger prick test at 8 weeks. Is it conclusive?
