Question

Does green tea interact with ARVs?

I was reading about the benefits of green tea in link below:
http://www.green-tea-health-news.com/hiv-prevention.html

Can taking green tea interfere with ARVs?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Green Tea has not been scientifically proven to have anti-HIV properties as this website states. You have to be careful what you are reading. There are millions of people who believe they have the cure to HIV but in reality, if it were true, there would be no need for ARVs.

However, green tea is a good antioxidant and a healthy thing to drink. It does not interfere with any ARVs.

    Hi Smith,

    Thank you.

It’s great that your HIV treatment is working well. But it’s a good idea to check with your doctor about drinking lavender tea. Especially if you like to drink it.

We should all just check with the doctor before taking any herbs. That’s because some herbs can interact, but others are fine.

Thank you for the answer. Noted on that, I will stop the consumption of lavender tea altogether.

My treatment is working and going well. Currently, I’m taking Tenof-EM and Kaletra. My viral load has been undetectable for 2 years now and my CD4 is in the 700s.

    Hi Smith,

Please see this Q&A about herbal remedies and ARVs https://i-base.info/qa/12356

But how’s your HIV treatment going? What ARVs are you taking? And if you have access to your CD4 count and viral load results, please let us know what they are.

    Hi Minnie,

Green teas do not interact with ARVs. But some herbs or supplements can interact with some ARVs. If you’re planning to take any supplement, please check with your doctor first.

    Hi Petunia,

As Charlotte says on this Q&A, green tea does not interact with the meds in PEP. However, it’s a good idea to let your doctor know you are thinking of taking the teas. That’s because there may be other ingredients in these teas that can interact with PEP.

Please see this guide to a balanced diet and your health. There’s lots of tips in this to help you control your weight.

    Hi hi…

Am a 33 years old female i jus started taking PEP pill a week ago. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend so i jus didn’t trust him, i then went to the pharmacy to get PEP so it can flush away infection(hiv)
i am gaining and thought of drinking longrich detox tea or slimming tea. Won’t it affect the process of pep pill to take its course since i was told to take it for 28 days?
