Hi,
I started odimune last night and after two hours I felt like some things were crawling on my face,my ears became painful,my head feels like its going to explode and it went on until today. I can’t work please help.

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for your email. I’m sorry to hear about these difficult side effects you are experiencing.

It is very normal to have difficult side effects in the first few days and weeks of treatment. Some people may find that they need to take a few days off work while this is most difficult. Are you able to do this?

Most side effects will get better or go away after a few weeks. If these are very severe and you are worried you should talk to your doctor. If you have any rash you should show this to your doctor. You should be able to access some treatment to make these side effects easier- for instance painkillers for the headache.

There are a small percentage of people who cannot tolerate certain drugs.  You could be one of these people. If the side effects do not go away after a month or so, then you need to discuss this with your HIV doctor. They can usually replace the drug, which is causing the side effect.

Please see our side effects guide for more information.

    Hi Lulama,

I don’t what the vitamin is that you’re referring to. Does it have another name? If you’ve a constant headache it could be due to the meds that you’re taking. However, you will need to speak to a doctor about this.

    Hi Shwane,

Side effects are common and usually go within a few weeks. However, because you have a rash you should tell your doctor about this.

    Hi Khaya,

Dizziness is a common side effect when starting Atripla. Odimune is a generic version of this. It usually goes within a few weeks. For more info on odimune please see here:

What time of day are you taking your meds?

Medicines and medical treatment are personal and private. This is a service for people to ask about their own care.

So I would like to know do you get these immediatley you got tested HIV positive or u have to be in a certain stage.

Hi Khanyi, You need to see a doctor about these symptoms.

Green vomit usually means it’s bile. That’s a fluid made by your liver to help you digest food. You can talk to your doctor and find out if there is something causing your vomiting and diarrhoea that’s not due to your HIV meds.

One of the drugs in Odimune (efavirenz) has been associated with liver toxicity. It’s important that your doctor checks out your liver function.
