Q and A

Question

Sometimes i have to take my Tribuss at different times – is this OK?

I’m working day and night shifts. I’ve been told to take my Tribuss at night when i’m doing day shift. When ‘ doing nights i take my pill in the morning before i go to sleep. Is this OK?

Answer

Hi,

Tribuss is usually recommended to be taken at night because you avoid side effects. This is because you will be sleeping when drug levels are highest and side effects are more likely to occur. These have to do with efavirenz, one of the drugs in Tribuss.

If you take your HIV meds at different times on different days you run the risk of developing resistance. This means your meds will not work effectively.

Because of this in UK people that do shift work do not use Tribuss. There are other meds that do not have to be taken before you sleep. Your clinic or doctor should be able to talk to you about any that are available.

    Hi Mbali,
One of the side effects mainly related to Trivenz is sleep disturbance. You can read about this here. If you’re drowsy at work because you can’t sleep at night you can ask your doctor if you can switch to other meds. But if you are working night shifts you could try taking Trivenz just before you go to bed, whatever time of day that might be.

    Hi Let,
Many people have mild side effects when starting Tribuss treatment and other HIV meds. These usually go away in the first week or two. But Tribuss side effects can mean you don’t sleep well. If this doesn’t go away your friend can talk to the doctor about it. Here is more info about Tribuss.

    Hi Nyamie,

Atrozia and Tribuss are both generic versions of Atripla. What this means is that they contain the same compounds. Therefore, you’re taking the same meds.

Hi I’ve been taking atroiza since I started my meds in 2016 May but last week they gave me Tribuss. So I just want to know if these meds are the same or they are just giving to us as its for HIV+

Hi Polenta, how are you doing? It is good that you are on HIV treatment (ART). All these drinks are fine to take with HIV meds.

    Hi I’m Poleta,

I was recently diagnosed with HIV end September . I got my ART today, so I start tonight taking Tribuss. My question is I have been drinking moringa tea.Additionally I also drink a mixture of cayenne pepper, tumeric, ginger, garlic and lemon. Will these effect the effectiveness of the treatment? And very often I drink apple cider to lower blood cholesterol. Please advise if I should stop drinking these herbs?

I forget to take my pill at 21:00. I woke at 1:23 in the morning and I took it, is it gonna cause a problem?
