Question

Does dolutagravir interact with magnesium supplements?

I am using Dolutegravir and i’m struggling every night to sleep. Are there any pills that I can use to help me sleep? I’veread about Magnesium supplements, can I try them?

Answer

Hi Zack, how are you doing?

What time have you been taking dolutegraivr? It is best taken in the morning as one its side effects is poor sleep.

You can take magnesium to help you sleep but it does interact with dolutegravir. It is important that you take magnesium 2 hours after, or 6 hours before your dose of dolutegravir. Taking them together would reduce how much dolutegravir is absorbed.

Though if you move your dose to dolutegravir to the morning, and have magnesium when you are off to bed this will not be a problem.

If you have another question, let us know.

Josh.

I am not sure magnesium will help but if you want to try this, please make sure it is taken at the opposite time of day than the ARVs because of drug interactions. See details here:
