Q and A

Question

Do I need to use condoms if I am on PrEP?

Hi I just wanted to find out if my partner is HIV positive and I’m negative taking and I’m taking prep should we continue using condoms, what future do we have

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

No. If you are on PrEP there is no need to use condoms to prevent HIV transmission.

PrEP will not prevent other STDs and a condom would be advised if this is a risk.

If your partner is HIV positive and on treatment with a viral load below 200 there would be no need for you to be on PrEP. Transmission in this case would be impossible and called U=U.

Josh.

Hi Gopolang, yes, it is very easy for you and your wife to try for a baby. This is very safe and you will not be at risk.

Hi Thobekile, HIV treatment/PrEP does not interfere with conceiving.
