Q and A

Question

Can I risk passing on HIV to my unborn child as the father?

Hi. Am male and have been virally suppressed since 2019; I wanted to know the chances of having a negative baby with a negative partner. Would the baby be somehow “infected” and need after birth anti hiv medication – even though I have been durably virally suppressed for awhile? Thank you

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

There is no risk of transmission of passing on HIV to your negative partner when you are virally suppressed.

U=U will protect both your partner and baby.

Baby would not require any HIV treatment after birth.

You being on treatment and being virally suppressed means it is impossible to risk transmission.

Josh.
