Q and A

Question

What is the difference between Tribuss and Odimune tablets?

Answer

Hi,

Tribuss and Odimune are generic versions of the fixed dose combination pill Atripla. These drugs have different names because they are made by different manufacturers.

Each version contains the same doses of three drugs. These are tenofovir, FTC and efavirenz.

There are no safety concerns from switching from one manufacturer to another.

Hi Noxolo, yes you can. All HIV medication is suitable to use when you are pregnant and when you are breastfeeding. Taking your medication is how best to keep you and baby healthy.

    Hi Simon,

If your girlfriends viral load is undetectable, it’s OK to have sex without a condom, please see here: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/ If it’s not, you’ll need to continue using condoms.

    Hi Tintswalo,

Tribuss and Odimune contain the same active drugs. But they are made by different companies and that’s why they have diifferent names. They are versions of Atripla. Please see here for other names for this tablet.

It means that Atroiza and Odimune work in exactly the same way.

    Hi Phindile,

There’s good news for women who want to have a baby while on HIV treatment (ART). Women around the world have taken HIV drugs safely in pregnancy now for over 20 years.

The benefits of ART are not just to your own health. Treating your HIV will reduce the risk of your baby becoming HIV positive to almost zero.

If you’re on ART and have an undetectable viral load you can not transmit HIV to your partner if you don’t use condoms.

You can discuss this with your doctor or nurse.

Here’s the guide to HIV pregnancy and women’s health. There’s a lot of info in this, including planning your pregnancy.

    Good luck.
