Is it safe to have unprotected sex after taking PEP for 30 days?
Answer
Hi Jacob,
How are you doing?
No. It is not safe to have unprotected sex after a course of PEP. PEP is used after possibly being exposed to HIV to prevent seroconversion, it is not used to stop transmission before sex.
To have unprotected sex safely, using PrEP will reduce the risk of getting HIV from sex by 99% if taken as prescribed. PrEP will not protect against other STIs, using a condom (barrier) with PrEP will help prevent HIV transmission and reduce the risk of other STIs.

If you have any more questions do get in touch,

Hi Loku, when did you finish PEP and have you tested? While you are unsure of your status it would be recommended to use a condom to prevent any risk of transmission.
