Q and A

Question

What is Ranega?

Is Ranega an ARV or PEP/PrEP?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Ranega is a generic version of TLD.

TLD is a medication used as both ARV (ART) and PEP. This is because TLD is a combination of 3 drugs that work to treat HIV. The same medication used to treat HIV is also used in PEP.

TLD is a first line recommendation for both ART and PEP.

TLD is not used as PrEP. PrEP only contains 2 drugs, instead of TLD which contains 3. Though they may use similar drugs.

Hi Frans, please talk to a doctor about whether you need PEP which needs to be taken within 72 hours but is much better if it is taken earlier.

Hi Ekelom, no you do not need a further test. Your results are conclusive. You do not have HIV.

    Dear Josh,

I greet you and your team for greater job you have been doing in assisting people.

Today marked it 105days that I last had the last dose of my Ranega pep after exposure with a lady who is positive and in acute hiv phase and I took Oraquick self test and it came out negative.

Do I need another test or is it conclusive.

My wife also who has been having endless flu and cough also took the test and also came out negative.

Am I safe or should I take another test, remember it’s 4months and two weeks that I was actually exposed, it happed October 25 2023, and I went on pep on 27th and ended it on 25Novermber 2023.

Hi Neo, please speak with your husband about this. Ranega is a generic version of TLD. It is a treatment that can be used to prevent and/or treat HIV.

Hi Ekelom, a self test after 90 days from the last dose of PEP will be conclusive. You will not require further testing after this.

    Dear Josh,

It’s 87days now that I last took my pep, any test done now will it be conclusive, I have 3days to complete 90days which is 3months and 120 days for my hiv exposure.
Can self test be accurate at this time?
    Thanks

Hi Ekelom, for a test to be conclusive at 53 days after the last dose of PEP you need to make sure you are using a 4th generation antigen/antibody test. 3rd generation antibody tests are only accurate from 90 days (3 months) after PEP.

Pain in your left ear is not associated with seroconversion. This is not a sign of HIV. If the pain continues please speak with your doctor to have it examined. You should also speak with your doctor about this burning sensation you are experiencing. This is not suggestive of HIV but does need to be checked if it is ongoing.

    Dear Josh.,

I last finished Ranega pep on 25th November 2023.

Since then I have been testing myself with self Hiv test and it all come out Negative. It’s almost 53days now, I didn’t experience sore throat, fever or flu.

But today being the 17th of January I feeling pain in my left ear, it’s like swollen lymph nodes. Is there any cause to be worried about?

Meanwhile for the past two weeks now I am having burning sensation under my feet and burning sensation at top of my back.

Should I be worried that I may have contracted HIV.

Any test taken now will it be accurate?

    Please help me answers above.
    Thanks.
