Q and A

Question

When can I test after PEP?

I have used Trenvir as PEP. After 7 days of exposure and now at 30 days I tested negative for HIV has worked?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

While on PEP, HIV tests are not accurate.

A 4th generation test is the most common test used to confirm HIV status. These tests are accurate from 6 weeks after finishing PEP – 10 weeks from initial exposure.

It is a good sign that you have been testing negative, but to confirm you still need to wait.

Josh.

Hi Mustafa, it depends on the type of test you do.

If you use a 3rd generation test you are required to wait 90 days. For. 4th generation test you are only required to wait 42 days.

Greetings again. I am a married man and as I have written before, I have received PEP treatment and have it done 44 days after PEP treatment AT to HIV 1/2 and AG p24 was negative. My only problem is that I am afraid that I will have a sexual life with my wife. You tell me I’m negative, but some sites keep saying I have to get tested after 90 days. What can you tell me about this confusion. I would be very happy if you help.

Hi Ali, this test is conclusive. You do not have HIV. You do not need to continue testing.

I’m HIV negative at 94 days after exposure and 62 days after pep but I have join pains, groin pain and my skin is itchy. What if the pep failed

Hi Mustafa, you are right. Your test is conclusive and you do not need another one. You are HIV negative.

Hello again. As you said, I had a fourth-generation HIV test 44 days after the end of PEP treatment and the result came back negative. I guess I don’t need to get tested anymore.

Hi Mustafa, it is great that you have been testing negative. To confirm your result you will need one further fourth generation test at 42 days after the last dose of PEP. This will give you a conclusive result.

Hello. I started PEP treatment 24 hours after the suspicious contact. After the pep treatment was over, I had HIV RNA and fourth-generation HIV testing. I repeated these tests every week. Finally, 38 days after the end of PEP treatment, I had an HIV duo ultra fourth generation test. The result of this test was also negative. Do you think I can trust this test?
