Q and A

Question

When can I test after PEP?

I have used Trenvir as PEP. After 7 days of exposure and now at 30 days I tested negative for HIV has worked?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

While on PEP, HIV tests are not accurate.

A 4th generation test is the most common test used to confirm HIV status. These tests are accurate from 6 weeks after finishing PEP – 10 weeks from initial exposure.

It is a good sign that you have been testing negative, but to confirm you still need to wait.

Josh.

Hi Manzuh, after 3 months most people will have an undetectable viral load. This means there would be no risk of transmission even when a condom is not used.

This is explained by U=U: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/

    More question
How risk it is to acquire HIV from a woman on medication for about 3 months with good atherence!!?
Then I got exposed to a woman above and begun PEP within 4days after I realized, I completed PeP in August 23 2023.
I made a test in September 29 2023 with ORAQUICK and there was no antibody reaction. So can I be assured of being Negative!!?

Hi Manzuh, an oral quicks test is conclusive 3 months after the last dose of PEP. If your PEP finished in August, you will need to wait until November for this type of test to be accurate.

Hi I got HIV exposure in July 20 2023 I started pep and now I have tested using oral Quicks check and no reaction results.
Can I be sure of being negative

Hi Albert, no this is not seroconversion. As you have now had 3 tests being negative and starting PEP late your result is conclusive. Your current symptoms are not caused by HIV. Please speak with your doctor about other possible causes.

Hey I had vaginally sex with a hooker and the condom broke I noted when I ejaculated inside her. 6 days past I had burning sensations on my penis and went to the hospital they gave me some pills and an injection the same day. I then felt cold and dizzy after the medication. They wouldn’t give me pep/prep because it was 6days after exposure.
However, I went to another clinic where I managed to get Pep even though my window period had passed. I started my pep and did it for 28days then started prep for 15days but had to stop because of side effects which were unbearable. It’s been 4 weeks passed since I finished my pep. I have had 3 tests which have always been coming out negative. But I am muscle spasms on my face and feeling week at sometimes. I have developed a small sore on my lower lip which is painless. I was given some vitamins when I visited a doctor last week. However, am still feeling weak at times. Can this be saroconversion

Hi Mustafa, yes you are correct your results are confirmed. You do not have HIV and you do not require any further testing.

As far as I know HIV 1, 2 Ag/Ab P24 Combo test is 4th generation test. I think I’m right about that. I repeated this test every week after the PEP treatment was over and had tests done in different laboratories. I had the last test 48 days after the end of the PEP treatment. I think I can trust now and be sure that I don’t have HIV.
