Q and A

Question

Is Telatri treatment or PrEP?

Good day.
My question. Telatri (Sonke tablets) an ARV or PrEP?

I tested negative last week and they gave me Telatri (sonke tablets). I have a partner who is HIV positive. A day before i went to clinic condom burst during intercourse.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Telatri is a generic version of TLD.

TLD can be used as an ARV to treat HIV or used as PEP to prevent transmission after an exposure.

Often treatment, PEP and PrEP will all use the same medication but for different uses.

The main different is treatment and PEP contain 3 drugs and PrEP only contains 2.

Is your partner on treatment? If they are and they have a viral load below 200 there is no reason to be on PEP. In this case it would be impossible for your partner to pass on HIV due to a suppressed viral load. This is called U=U.

Hi Bucie, Teletri is sometimes used for prevention and sometimes for treatment. But healthcare is private and so you need to ask them if they want to to to you about this or not. It is good that you are taking responsibility for your own health though. This link has more info about transmission, including that effective treatment also protects a partner – called U=U:

Hi. I learnt that my partner is taking Telatri. He has never told me about it. Is it okay if I assume that he is hiv+?
We have been using protection always. Any advice for me? Could there be any transmittions maybe on towels we use after intercourse?

Hi Nontobeko, how are you been doing since testing positive? and how are you doing on treatment?

There is no specific food you need to be taking. As with everybody it is recommended to eat a balanced diet which is explained further here: https://i-base.info/guides/side/diet-a-balanced-diet-and-your-health

As for your immune system, Telatri will prevent your viral load. Your body will then be able to naturally generate its CD4 cells (immune system). There is no food or supplements you need to be taking to help improve this process, your body is able to naturally do it itself.

What is your current CD4 count and viral load?
