Question
What is Atroiza used for?
5 July 2016. Related: Access to treatment, All topics, PEP/PEPSE.
Answer
Atroiza is a combination pill that contains three HIV drugs. It is a generic version of Atripla.
It is mainly used to treat HIV.
However, in some countries the same drugs (efavirenz/tenofovirDF/emtricitabine) are used as PEP to prevent HIV infection.
This is not recommended in the UK or in other guidelines. which recommend different HIV drugs for PEP. This is because of concerns about efavirenz side effects in HIV negative people.
See: PEP, PEPSE and PrEP.
Hey i just found out partner is hiv positive taking atroiza
Hi Mufunwa, I do not recognise Travige as an HIV medication. Have you asked your boyfriend why he is taking this?
My boyfriend is taking travige pills does it mean he is hiv positive?
Does trivage works as untidepressent pills?
If your partner is on HIV meds and already has an undetectable viral load, then you should not be at risk.

You should not use Atroiza but you could ask your doctor about PrEP which uses two of the same drugs.

Hi I just find out that my partner is HIV but he didn’t know untill he took the test at work.bt he is taking Atroiza does it mean that I am safe or I can also take Atroiza to prevent not getting it.
Hi Moleya, Atroiza can reduce the risk if you are using it as PEP (e.g., once a day for 28 days). though Atroiza is not routinely used as PEP because of its side effects. A more appropriate medication would be to use TLD. For more information about PEP please see here: https://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/pep-faq
Does atroiza reduce the risk of being infected after having sex with HIV positive partner
Hi Tom, it is good that you started treatment so soon but Atroiza is not recommended as PEP. This is not because it is not effective, but because it can have significant side effects. Are you able to speak with your doctor to get a different medication?
As you started within 72 hours, your medication has the most chance at being effective. There are a number of other factors that change the risk of HIV transmission. Please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/testing/risks-for-transmission

Hi I had sex with a HIV positive person, second day I found out she’s HIV positive. immediately I started taking atroiza.please I just wanna know do I still stand the chance of contacting the HIV, because she wasn’t aware that she is positive until we do test together. please reply via mail
Hi Crissy, do you also know your viral load? Your CD4 count is excellent, it means that HIV is not impacting your immune system. When did you test positive for HIV? Eating a healthy diet is important in leading a healthy life, but organic food cannot treat HIV. Only ART can treat and suppress HIV. Have you noticed any difficulties while taking Atroiza?
