Q and A

Question

What are the side effects of Reydin?

Hi, my doctor gave me Reydin and I was drinking it at night at fist. My gums started bleeding and after that I had trouble concentrating. I also forget very easily. It is like I’m loosing my mind, what could be the problem?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Reydin is a generic version of TLD. This link is to a previous question about all TLD side effects. Reydin does not cause bleeding gums. Have you mentioned this symptom to a doctor?

How are you sleeping at night? Reydin is often best tolerated when taken during the morning. It can cause problems sleeping. If this is the case it would explain why you are having trouble concentrating.

If you have any further questions do get in touch,

Josh.

Hi Siyabuela, how long have you been on HIV treatment? and do you know your current CD4 count and viral load?

Do you know anymore about this ‘vitro’ that you had been taking last month? and how many days have you now been on Reydin?

Your body shaking/vibrating is not a side effect of Reydin. You should speak to your doctor about what are the potential causes of this and how to treat it.

Hi Vincent, yes. Reydin is a common treatment choice for PEP. PEP is a 28 day course of treatment to prevent transmission.

More information about PEP can be found here: https://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/pep-faq

Hi Nolwazi, have you spoken to your partner about their status? and by testing negative do you mean this is their viral load?

When someone is on ARVs and they have a viral load that cannot be detected it is impossible to pass on HIV. This is called U=U. It explains that when on treatment with a suppressed viral load, there is so little HIV in the body that it is impossible to pass on HIV via sex. There would be no risk to yourself and you would not require a condom/PEP to prevent transmission.

Are you taking Reydin as PEP e.g., a 4 week course? You will need to take the last day of treatment as the first day of exposure. Meaning any test you do will be delayed by 4 weeks until they can be conclusive.

Hi Sylvia, please see this guide: https://i-base.info/guides/side/liver-related-side-effect

Most HIV treatments do have the potential to cause some liver damage. This is a rare event and will more commonly occur in those who already have liver problems. Do your currently have a healthy liver? and are there any specific liver problems you are concerned about?

Hi Asanda, when did these headaches start and when did you change the time of your medication? And what was your original time and what time are you taking Reydin now?

As you have been on Reydin for so long, it is unlikely that changing the time is unlikely to have caused a new side effect by changing the time. How are you sleeping currently? If you have moved your treatment closer to bedtime, it is possible that you are not sleeping as well which could be the cause of your headache.

What have you tried to help with these headaches e.g., more sleep, fluids, pain relief, reducing stress etc…? and do you have any other symptoms along with these headaches like nausea, changes in vision, flu-like symptoms?

If these headaches continue please speak with your doctor about possible causes.
